I found the reading by Lyotard very confusing to be completely honest. I feel like this reading went into elaborate detail on trying to find the definition of post modernism and where it originates from (modernism). I think it is difficult for me to try and comprehend most of these readings because of my mindset being a United States Marine. I had a discussion earlier today with a fellow veteran on campus about the difficulty of adapting to civilian life on campus. What I’m getting to his whenever we read the syllabus we are presented or a reading we are assigned for a class with what seems to be such a simple question, such as this reading by Lyotard Answering the question: what is postmodernism, we expect short and straight to the point answer. We do not expect an elaborate definition or expect to be given the whole history on how it came to be, but straight to the point what it is. From my understanding of what the reading has done for me was give the history of where postmodernism originated from and the different ways certain people throughout history approached the creation of postmodernism through their own styles of architecture. This article assisted me to separating postmodernism and modernism and how postmodernism is still in a growing state. It was hard to follow examples through this reading of what postmodernism and modernism was at times, but I think that the images presented in class assisted me and understanding what postmodernism and modernism was in his physical self.
