Architecture and post-modernism
This past class was very interesting due to the fact, I started to see architecture as a way of self-expression and art. Modernism and post- modernism are two ways of art and even one can say a way of life. After analyzing several of the building and architecture we saw, I decided to look more into it and try to relate them with art pieces. “Postmodern meant a culture that was post-Western and post-Christian: a culture that had a strong sense of its departure point but no clear sense of destination” (p. 293). This quote, made me think about idea of postmodernism really catches my mind because it makes me think that one thing that at what point was post-modernist, can later become modernist once it becomes “obsolete” to let the new ideas become postmodernist (I’m sorry if this doesn’t make quite sense). Out of all of the architecture styles that we saw in class, the absent centre. When ever I travel, building like this are the ones that capture my attention the most because I enjoy how it connects with the outside. The following are some of my favorite "absent centre" pieces of architecture the building of the Perez Art Museum in Miami, and "Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle" in Milano Italy. Now, commenting on Joy’s idea about the idea of modernism. I do agree with her with some or even several of the these artist really do, in my opinion, miss artistry. As an example, Miró, he is one of the greatest modernistic artist I history; but most of his art reminds me of my 4 year olds nephew’s drawings. In the other hand, there are modernistic artist such as Dalí that his art does show to have a meaning, tone, harmony and beauty.
