From my interpretation of the reading about culture and hegemony I understood that hegemony is a state where there is a dominant social group has total social authority over the others. I understand that there is a difference between culture and hegemony. whenever I think of a certain group having total dominance over the other groups within the culture, for some reason I immediately think almost every developed country in the world we know today. There seems to always be a certain group of people was social class that has total dominance over the other group that exist within that nation. An example is the social classes that exist within developed countries today. Usually when there is no gap between the upper class and lower class, there is usually unrest and protests. I don’t know why but that is the first example that pops up in my head when I think of hegemony. Maybe it is because we live in that world right now with our own country being that way. With my mind said being the way it is when I see something unjust I will usually speak up about it and do something about it. The problem is that the people with the most power have a lot more advantage over those who are underneath them which makes it easy for them to continue their power and their role. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if there was a way to start from scratch where everybody started off with the same thing. I wonder how everybody’s personality would be as well as how we would probably finally come to an understanding of one another in achieve the goal of the quality rather than always having someone who has more power than the other.
