The class discussions about ideology and the readings about ideology had a deep impact on me out of all the classes so far. For some reason anytime I hear the word “ideology” I think of negative words that corresponds with it based on personal experience. Usually whenever I hear about ideology it’s about the history of the specific ideology that had a very large consequence and was seen in a negative way. This made me think about the multiple ideologies that I live within because of my lifestyle. Being a United States Marine you have to have a certain mindset. This is the warrior mindset. Some people see it as the sheepdog mindset where if you are in a job where you protect and save people from evildoers, you are known as the sheepdog. I would say I’m very much have this mindset, but know when to flick it off and return to a peaceful state where I am neutral. I will admit though the ideology of being a sheepdog compared to other people is always there no matter where I go and in what present moment I am living in. It’s the training and personal experience I have with this life that has put me in that ideology. It is an ideology that not many people believe in these days because of the world we live in today with it being safer than it was 70 years ago. With this being said when I tell people about my mindset and this ideology, sometimes they tell me that I am an old soul or I am more mature than many other people and have much more life experience than most people in the room. I would say this is true, but the life experience I have gained comes at a cost. This ideology is not for everybody. I feel this ideology is only made for the people that understand it if they have been through a situation where they needed to respond acting as a sheepdog.
